Registration and License

NOTICE: I'll be away overseas on business from 20th May 2013 until 1st July 2013 with little or no internet access.
As such it will be unlikely that I can process any registrations during this time.

An x.factory librarian will run in demo mode until it is registered and you receive and install a License key. Prior to registration, you can run the program and load, import and manipulate data to see the potential value of the program, but you will need to register and purchase a license file in order to save and export data

Registration of an x.factory series librarian costs $25 USD.

If you require an additional x.factory license for another computer in addition to your main license, then each additional license costs $12.50.

If you are already a registered user then you can simply download and install the latest version of a Librarian. Please email me for upgrade options to enable Librarian support if your license does not already include that option.

My preferred payment mechanism is via Paypal, although I will consider other payment mechanisms as long as you are prepared to pay any additional costs associated with the transaction, and as long as it is not too laborious. If you wish to use an alternate payment mechanism then please email  registration@xfactory-librarians.co.uk with the details. Please note that if I have to deal with a lot of registrations in one go, priority will be given to registrations using Paypal as the payment mechanism.

To start the registration process you will need the serial number of your x.factory librarian.

To find your serial number, start your x.factory librarian and select the Register ... option from the Help menu, and you will see a dialog box similar to the following.

This is the dialog screen for an unregistered version of an x.factory application, which is showing:

NB: The serial number given in the above dialog is an example. You will need to provide the one being reported upon your system as the serial number will vary from system to system

To register an x.factory librarian, you need to make a note of the serial number from the registration dialog box and make a paypal payment of $25 USD to the following email address:

registration@xfactory-librarians.co.uk

Don't forget to include the serial number in the Paypal transaction details.

License Keys

The following instructions apply to the latest versions of x.factory librarians. Please ensure that you have downloaded and are using the latest version of the librarian that you are registering.

Once I have received payment, I will issue the license key, which is generated using the serial number that you have provided.

Please note that occasionally I work away from home (with limited or no Internet/email access), so please allow up to seven days to receive registration details or your license key before chasing me.

Once you have received the license key file, which is called license.zip, simply copy the license.zip file to the license folder. The location of this folder is different depending on the operating system that you are using.

Windows XP

On a PC running operating systems up to XP, the license folder can be found at:

OS Drive:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\xfactory.librarians\Librarian Name\license

For example, on my PC, with the operating system on drive C, with my user name of Derek, an ex.factory license is stored at

C:\Documents and Settings\Derek\xfactory.librarians\ex.factory\license

Windows Vista and Windows 7

On a PC running Vista and Windows 7, the license folder can be found at:

OS Drive:\Users\Your User Namexfactory.librarians\Librarian Name\license

For example, on my PC, with the operating system on drive C, with my user name of Derek, an ex.factory license is stored at

C:\Users\Derek\xfactory.librarians\ex.factory\license

Mac OSX

On Mac Running OSX, the license folder can be found at:

OS Drive/Users/Your User Name/xfactory.librarians/Librarian Name/license

For example, on my test Mac (thanks, Jim!), with the operating system on drive MacintoshHD, with my user name of Derek, an ex.factory license is stored at

MacintoshHD/Users/Derek/xfactory.librarians/ex.factory/license

The license.jar folder can also be stored in the same folder where you installed the application

Please note that whilst an x.factory librarian is freely distributable, the license key that I send you is not. Please respect this and the amount of effort I have put into developing this application.

Please note that the license key may become invalidated if you do certain things to your machine configuration:

If you do invalidate your license key you will have to apply for a new one. This will not cost you any extra.

Whilst I appreciate that some people may view this as an inconvenience, I have done this to make pirating of the license keys by simple copying a little more difficult.
